Treatment details: Upper Eyelid Skin Excision (Upper Blepharoplasty)

Excess upper eyelid skin was excised with the incision hidden in the crease. Where the skin rests on the lashes, the functional gain is as noticeable as the aesthetic one, and many patients describe the eye as feeling easier to open rather than simply looking different. Sutures were removed within a week. This photograph is one month after surgery, when swelling has settled but the scar is still pink and will continue to fade for six months or more. Slight asymmetry in the early weeks is common as the two sides resolve at different rates and generally equalises.

Risks & Side Effects

Swelling and bruising of the lids are heaviest for the first week and take two to three weeks to look settled. Dryness, watering, light sensitivity and a tight feeling when closing the eyes are common early. The two sides rarely heal at exactly the same rate, and a difference in crease height or in how much skin was taken can remain, sometimes needing revision after several months. The scar is red for a time and softens into the crease. Bleeding and infection are uncommon.
