Juvederm VOLBELLA was placed in the lips to add definition and a modest increase in volume. Its fine particle structure suits patients who want the lip to look and feel natural rather than obviously augmented. This photograph was taken immediately after the procedure, so what is visible includes injection swelling; the settled shape emerges over the following one to two weeks and is typically less full than the immediate appearance. Bruising is common in the lip and can last up to ten days. We advise avoiding vigorous exercise, alcohol and hot baths on the day of treatment to limit swelling.

Because the change shows immediately, the lips look larger on the day than they will once swelling passes over three to five days. Tenderness when eating or brushing the teeth is normal in that period, and bruises may appear the next morning. Cold sore reactivation is possible in those affected before. Uneven areas and small lumps are reviewed at two weeks and can be softened or dissolved. Arterial blockage in the lip is rare and treated as an emergency.
