A lift moves the breast tissue and the nipple back to a higher position and removes the excess skin that allowed the descent. No implant was used, so the volume seen afterwards is the patient’s own tissue redistributed rather than added. Incision pattern was chosen for the degree of laxity present, since a more limited scar is only possible when there is less skin to remove. At four months the swelling has resolved and the breast has settled into its final position, which typically involves a slight drop from the shape seen immediately after surgery. Scars are still maturing and continue to fade over a year or more.

Bruising, swelling, and a tight feeling across the breasts ease over one to two weeks, while numbness around the nipple can last considerably longer. Scars follow the planned incision lines, remain permanent, and soften across six to twelve months. Asymmetry of shape, nipple position, or size is possible, as are altered nipple sensation, reduced ability to breastfeed, delayed wound healing, bleeding, and infection. Tissue continues to settle with time and gravity, and revision surgery is occasionally requested.
