Hyaluronic Acid Filler (Lips and Jawline)

This male patient wanted more definition through the lower face without any change that would read as cosmetic work.

We placed a firm hyaluronic acid along the jaw border to sharpen the line from the chin to the angle, and a softer product in the lips to correct thinning of the upper lip.

The photo is immediately after treatment. The jaw border is defined and the lip has an outline, with the proportions of the face unchanged.

In male patients the jaw is built out along the border rather than at the chin point. Adding projection at the chin alone lengthens the face and looks out of character.

Pain, swelling, redness, and bruising settle within one to two weeks. Lips swell more than other areas.

Lumps or irregularity may be felt and usually soften over several weeks.

Asymmetry can occur and may need adjustment.

Cold sores can be triggered in patients who carry the virus.

Hyaluronic acid is absorbed over time. Repeat treatment is needed to maintain the result.

Very rarely, injection into a blood vessel can impair blood flow and cause skin necrosis.

Infection is uncommon.
