That said, if you notice discomfort, a change in shape, or signs of contracture or rupture, it’s worth getting checked—usually with ultrasound or MRI. Most patients feel ready for light activity within a few days, though everyone heals a little differently. Swelling and bruising tend to improve over the following weeks, and a compression garment or surgical bra is often recommended. More strenuous activity usually resumes once your surgeon confirms you’re healing well.

In many cases, your surgeon can reuse the original incision from your first surgery, which helps avoid new scarring. If a new incision is needed, it’s placed as discreetly as possible—scars won’t disappear entirely, but they do soften over time.
