Thread lifting was chosen here because the patient wanted a visible change in the cheek and jawline without an incision. The threads are placed under the skin and anchored so that soft tissue is repositioned upward, and the lift can be seen as soon as the procedure ends. What the photograph does not yet show is the second stage of the effect: as the threads absorb over the following months, collagen forms along each strand and maintains support after the material itself has gone. Mild tightness on opening the mouth wide is normal for the first several days and settles without treatment.

Tightness, a pulling sensation when opening the mouth wide, swelling, and bruising along the thread paths are usual for one to two weeks. Puckering or shallow dimples at the entry and anchor points normally release as the tissue relaxes. Asymmetry between the two sides can occur and may need revision. A thread is occasionally felt through the skin, and in rare cases extrudes or becomes infected and has to be removed. The lift fades as the threads dissolve over about a year.
