Lip work is as much about shape as volume. Attention here went to the philtral columns and the cupid’s bow, since a lip that is simply inflated loses the landmarks that make it read as a lip. VOLBELLA is soft enough to sit in these fine structures without distorting them. Upper and lower lip were treated in proportion rather than equally, because matching them one to one flattens the natural balance between the two. This photograph is immediately after injection, so some swelling is included in what is visible. The shape refines over the following one to two weeks as that settles.

The lips hold swelling more than other areas, so they look large and firm for two or three days and the true shape appears after about two weeks. Bruising, tenderness and a tight feeling when speaking or eating are usual at the start. A cold sore outbreak can be provoked in those who carry the virus. Lumps and slight differences between the sides can be adjusted at review, and vascular blockage, though rare, is an emergency. The filler fades over six to twelve months.
