The measurements taken at consultation showed a difference between the two sides, so implants of different volume were selected: 335 cc on the right and 355 cc on the left. Matching implant size to each side rather than using a pair of the same volume is what makes the final result look symmetrical. The one month photograph shows the implants beginning to settle into position, with the shape continuing to soften over the following months. A twenty cc difference between sides is not something a patient perceives directly. It is measured at consultation and shows up in the finished result as symmetry rather than as a visible difference in size.

Both breasts feel tight, swollen, and sore for one to two weeks, and mild bruising is usual, while the final shape settles over three to six months. Using slightly different volumes on the two sides does not make the result even, since chest and breast shape differ naturally. Bleeding, hematoma, infection, altered nipple sensation, rippling, implant movement, rupture, and capsular contracture can occur, and any of these may lead to further surgery. Breast implants have very rarely been linked to anaplastic large cell lymphoma.
