The existing scar was revised so that the line sits in a more favourable direction and the edges meet without tension. Tension across a healing wound is the main factor that makes a scar widen or thicken, so releasing it matters more than the length of the excision. This image is two weeks after the procedure, immediately following suture removal, which is the point at which the new line looks its most obvious. It stays red and slightly raised for the first two to three months and then flattens and pales gradually over the following year. Sun protection over the line accelerates that fading.

The revised line is swollen, red, and tight for one to two weeks, then firms before softening over six to twelve months. A scar is exchanged rather than erased, and although the aim is a finer, flatter mark, the outcome cannot be assured. Thickened or keloid healing can return, particularly in those with that tendency, and may call for injections or further treatment. Widening, color change, or a step in the surface is possible. Infection and wound separation are uncommon.
