Doctor's Comments

Treatment details: Hyaluronic Acid Injection (Nose)

Filler in the nose is placed deep, against the bone and cartilage in the midline, and in small volumes. Working in the midline keeps the product away from the vessels that run to either side, which is the main safety consideration in this area. The photograph is immediately after treatment, so the height seen here is the working result before any settling. The nose carries the highest risk of vascular complication of any filler site, because the vessels supplying the tip and the columella have limited collateral supply. Injection is midline, deep and slow, with aspiration before each deposit.

Risks & Side Effects

Filler in the nose carries a low but real risk of vascular occlusion. Product entering or pressing on a vessel can starve the skin of blood, leading to whitening, pain, mottled discoloration and, if untreated, ulceration or scarring. Backward flow toward the eye has caused permanent loss of vision in rare reported cases, so sudden pain or visual symptoms call for emergency treatment including hyaluronidase. Otherwise swelling and bruising settle within days, and the material absorbs over months.
