A fuller lip shape was requested without altering the overall proportion of the lower face. Juvederm VOLBELLA is a softer material of lower viscosity well suited to lips, as it integrates smoothly and is less likely to feel firm when the patient presses on the area. Placement followed the existing lip anatomy rather than creating a new border line. The one month photograph shows the result after all injection swelling has resolved, which is the point at which the true volume becomes clear. Lips bruise readily, and swelling in the first two days can be considerable. The effect is temporary and gradually diminishes over six to twelve months.

Fullness and tightness peak on the first or second day and subside over the week that follows, so the finished shape is judged after two weeks. Bruising at the puncture sites is common. Herpes simplex may reactivate in carriers and is treated with antiviral medication. Small nodules within the body of the lip usually soften, though persistent lumps, migration beyond the border, or a difference between the sides can be corrected. Occlusion of a lip vessel is rare and requires urgent care.
