When you hear the word “BOTOX,” you probably think of smooth foreheads and wrinkle-free smiles, right? But what if I told you that this little miracle in a syringe has a history that’s as surprising as it is glamorous?
The Deadly Beginning: A Foodborne Foe
Our story starts in the 1820s, long before BOTOX became the star of beauty clinics worldwide. Back then, a German doctor named Justinus Kerner was trying to figure out why people were getting sick from improperly prepared sausages. Yes, you read that right—sausages! Through his research, he discovered a mysterious toxin that caused muscle paralysis. Little did he know, he had stumbled upon what we now call botulinum toxin, the very substance that gives BOTOX its power.

Justinus Kerner
Botulinum toxin, produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, is one of the most lethal substances known to man. A single gram of it could theoretically kill a million people.
A Medical Marvel: BOTOX in the Making
Fast forward to the 1970s, and botulinum toxin was being studied for its potential therapeutic uses. Dr. Alan Scott, an ophthalmologist, was one of the pioneers who began experimenting with the toxin to treat strabismus, a condition where the eyes do not properly align. He found that injecting tiny amounts of the toxin into the eye muscles could temporarily paralyze them, helping the eyes to align properly. It was a groundbreaking discovery, but the idea of injecting a deadly toxin into your face? Still a hard sell.

The Birth of BOTOX as We Know It
In 1989, the FDA approved the use of botulinum toxin for medical purposes. But it wasn’t until the early 2000s that the real magic happened. Allergan, a pharmaceutical company, acquired the rights to Oculinum and began marketing it under the now-famous name: BOTOX.
In 2002, the FDA approved BOTOX for cosmetic use, specifically for the temporary improvement of frown lines between the eyebrows. This was the beginning of BOTOX’s beauty revolution.
BOTOX Today: More Than Just a Beauty Treatment
Today, BOTOX is far more than a wrinkle-fighter. It’s used to treat a wide range of medical conditions, from chronic migraines to excessive sweating, and even overactive bladders. The same toxin that was once a feared killer is now a versatile tool in both medicine and cosmetics, helping millions of people look and feel their best.
Further use of BOTOX

We go further, actually. We created totally new use of BOTOX, which is called “Barbie Botox”. Barbie Botox relives your pain in shoulders, makes your neck longer and slimmer, and even improves your posture! We are now doing a campaign, don’t miss this opportunity!
