This patient wanted a change without downtime and without surgery.
We filled the hollow under the eyes and added volume to the lips with hyaluronic acid, then placed seven threads to lift the cheek and jawline. Filler restores what has been lost. Threads move what has descended. Neither substitutes for the other, and the two together cover more than either alone.
Three weeks later the under-eye shadow has lifted, the lips have a fuller outline, and the cheek sits higher.
Threads keep working for several months as the tissue around them tightens. We chose a fine cannula for the under-eye area to keep bruising down, which matters for patients who cannot take time off.
Pain, swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection and thread entry points settle within one to two weeks.
Lumps or unevenness may be felt in filled areas and usually soften over several weeks.
Asymmetry, dimpling of the skin, or a pulling sensation can occur after thread placement.
Threads may become palpable or, rarely, extrude and require removal.
Hyaluronic acid is absorbed over time. Repeat treatment is needed to maintain the result.
Very rarely, injection into a blood vessel can impair blood flow and cause skin necrosis. Visual disturbance has been reported with filler injection around the eye, though this is extremely rare.
Infection is uncommon.
