For the first ten days or so the cheeks feel stiff and pulled, and smiling or wide mouth opening can be uncomfortable. Bruising follows the line of each thread and swelling is greatest on the second day. Dimpling where a barb grips the tissue is common at first. The result can sit unevenly and may need a small adjustment. Rare problems include a palpable or exposed thread and infection, either of which may require removal. Support fades across about twelve months.
Injection below the eye adds swelling to the puffiness already caused by the threads, and both settle over the same one to two weeks. Bruising at the puncture points is common in this thin skin, and material placed too near the surface can show as a pale or bluish Tyndall type shadow. Small bumps may be felt briefly. Hyaluronidase does not dissolve collagen, so any unevenness is managed by massage and time. The effect lasts about three to six months.
