What is the Hamra Method?
The Hamra Method is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at reducing sagging and dark circles under the eyes.
Instead of simply removing the forward-protruding “orbital fat” caused by aging or bone structure, the fat is repositioned into hollow areas, smoothing and balancing the under-eye region. Since the lower eyelid skin is incised, it is suitable for those with significant sagging or excess skin. It is also characterized by its natural and long-lasting results. -
What is the Reverse Hamra Method?
The Reverse Hamra Method is a procedure suitable for under-eye sagging or dark circles, especially those accompanied by unevenness (so-called “shadowed dark circles”). By incising the inside of the eyelid and repositioning/fixing excess orbital fat, both bulging and hollowing are corrected simultaneously.
Unlike simple fat removal, which carries the risk of worsening hollowness, this method allows fat to be used to fill depressions. Because the skin surface is not incised, scars are inconspicuous and downtime is relatively short. It is also considered to have a lower risk of complications. This method allows for the preservation of tear troughs while achieving a smooth, natural under-eye appearance with long-lasting effects. -
Performed by Doctors Experienced in Hamra and Reverse Hamra Methods
The Hamra Method is an advanced procedure involving fat repositioning, with downtime and applicable conditions differing depending on the surgical approach.
●The Hamra Method involves skin incision, so swelling and bruising are more common, requiring about 1–2 weeks of downtime.
●The Reverse Hamra Method leaves no visible scars and has shorter downtime (about 1 week), but requires highly refined surgical skill and aesthetic judgment.
At BIANCA CLINIC, doctors with advanced anatomical knowledge and surgical expertise handle the entire process—from consultation and surgery to aftercare. Risks are thoroughly explained beforehand, and postoperative recovery is carefully supported. We provide an environment where patients seeking a natural and refined under-eye appearance can feel secure in their choice.

Downtime after Hamra / Reverse Hamra
Bruising: subsides in about 10 days
Swelling: about 1 week
Treatment Benefits
-
Addresses Stubborn Sagging and Dark Circles in Middle-Aged and Older Patients
The Hamra Method allows for simultaneous fat repositioning and removal of sagging skin, making it suitable for treating under-eye dark circles in middle-aged and older patients with pronounced skin laxity.
-
Directly Targets Under-Eye Sagging and Dark Circles with the Reverse Hamra Method
By moving and fixing orbital fat into hollow areas, this method reduces the risk of depressions and shadows that can occur with fat removal, resulting in a smoother under-eye area.
-
Smooths and Rejuvenates the Eye Area
Since fat is not removed but repositioned, it avoids unevenness and hollowing, aiming for a naturally youthful under-eye appearance.
TREATMENT PROCESS
-
Consultation with the Doctor
The doctor will examine the under-eye condition (bulging, hollowing, sagging, etc.) and determine whether the Hamra or Reverse Hamra Method is suitable. Please feel free to ask about procedure details, risks, downtime, aftereffects, costs, or any other concerns.

-
Design and Marking
The doctor will mark the areas of sagging, bulging, or fat to be repositioned. Since the amount and location of orbital fat differ from person to person, the doctor will decide how much fat to move and from where.

FAQ
- Q How long do swelling and bruising last after the Hamra and Reverse Hamra Methods?
-
A
While it varies by individual:
●For the Hamra Method, noticeable swelling typically lasts 1–2 weeks, and bruising settles within about 2 weeks. However, it may take several months for swelling to fully subside.
●For the Reverse Hamra Method, swelling generally peaks 2–3 days after surgery and gradually improves within a week. Bruising usually fades in about 10 days, and patients can return to daily life while covering with makeup. - Q Is suture removal necessary after the Hamra and Reverse Hamra Methods?
-
A
●The Hamra Method requires suture removal. At BIANCA CLINIC, this is typically performed about one week after surgery.
●The Reverse Hamra Method approaches from the inner eyelid (conjunctival side), meaning no external stitches are used and suture removal is generally unnecessary, reducing postoperative burden. - Q When can I resume wearing contact lenses after surgery?
-
A
●For the Hamra Method, lenses may be worn again after suture removal, once the incision has fully healed. Wearing them too early may worsen swelling, bruising, or even cause infection. If you experience discomfort or pain while wearing lenses, discontinue use immediately and contact our clinic.
●For the Reverse Hamra Method, contact lens use is generally possible about one week after surgery. However, if there is redness or discomfort, please consult your doctor before resuming. - Q What is the difference between the Hamra/Reverse Hamra Methods and fat removal (transconjunctival fat removal)?
-
A
While both aim to reduce under-eye sagging and dark circles, the difference lies in fat management:
●Fat removal excises orbital fat.
●The Hamra and Reverse Hamra Methods reposition and redistribute fat, which helps reduce the risk of hollowness compared to fat removal. - Q What is the difference between the Hamra Method and the Reverse Hamra Method?
-
A
●The Hamra Method involves an incision through the lower eyelid skin and allows for removal of excess skin if necessary.
●The Reverse Hamra Method involves an incision through the inner eyelid (conjunctiva), without removing excess skin. - Q Will the tear troughs disappear after the Hamra or Reverse Hamra Method?
-
A
●At BIANCA CLINIC, the Hamra Method can preserve or even enhance tear troughs by using special suture techniques when fixing the orbicularis oculi muscle. During consultation, patients can share their preferences, such as “I want fuller tear troughs like celebrities” or “I prefer them reduced.”
●With the Reverse Hamra Method, the skin and muscle around the eyes are preserved, so the risk of losing tear troughs is extremely low. - Q Can dark circles or sagging recur after surgery?
-
A
Since both methods reposition and fix fat, the risk of recurrence is low, and results are long-lasting. They are considered procedures with relatively little need for reoperation. However, aging and lifestyle habits may still cause sagging to reappear over time.
- Q What risks or complications are possible after the Hamra or Reverse Hamra Methods?
-
A
●With the Hamra Method, there is a possibility of asymmetry, contracture, or ectropion (outward turning of the eyelid). At BIANCA CLINIC, we carefully evaluate suitability, perform procedures with precision, and provide thorough aftercare and downtime support to minimize risks.
●The Reverse Hamra Method is thought to have a lower risk of ectropion compared to the Hamra Method. At BIANCA CLINIC, our surgeons—trained in detailed anatomical understanding and refined surgical technique—perform the procedure to prevent such complications. Should any concerning symptoms occur, our doctors will take full responsibility in addressing them.
