The hollow under this patient’s eyes was deep enough to read as a dark band across the lower lid, and it showed in every photograph regardless of lighting.
We filled the depression with Baby Collagen, placing it directly against the bone through a cannula so the material sits under the muscle rather than in the thin skin above it.
This photo is two weeks after treatment, once the injection swelling has resolved and the material has settled. The band of shadow is gone and the lower lid runs smoothly into the cheek.
Two weeks is when we ask patients to come back for assessment. Anything earlier reflects swelling rather than the result.
Mild pain, swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection points settles within a few days to two weeks. The under-eye area bruises easily.
Small lumps or unevenness may be felt while the material settles.
Asymmetry can occur and may need adjustment.
The effect is not permanent. The material is absorbed over time and repeat treatment is needed.
Very rarely, injection into a blood vessel can impair blood flow. Visual disturbance has been reported with injection around the eye, though this is extremely rare.
Infection is uncommon.
