Treatment details: Upper Eyelid Skin Excision (Upper Blepharoplasty)
Redundant skin was removed from the upper lid, with the incision placed along the existing crease so that the line is concealed when the eye is open. How much to take is judged with the patient upright and looking straight ahead, and a margin is deliberately left rather than removing the maximum, because taking too much prevents the eye from closing fully. This image is three months after surgery. The scar has begun to pale but continues to fade for several more months. What patients notice most immediately is that the lid feels lighter and that the lash line is visible again.
Lid swelling peaks in the first two days and mostly resolves inside two weeks, with bruising that may spread down toward the cheek. Sensitivity to light, a gritty or dry feeling, and difficulty closing the lids completely can occur while the tissue is swollen. The two lids may not settle at the same rate, and residual or excess skin sometimes calls for a correction later. The scar remains, though it becomes inconspicuous within the crease. Infection is unusual.
