Ten threads were used, which is toward the higher end of what we place in a single session, and the number was chosen because the descent involved both the cheek and the jawline rather than one zone. Each thread carries a limited amount of lift, so the total is decided by how much tissue needs support rather than by preference. The result visible immediately after placement is mechanical. Over the following two to three months collagen develops along each thread and takes over that role as the material absorbs. Sleeping on the back and avoiding facial massage protects the placement during the first fortnight.

A drawn or stretched sensation when opening the mouth is normal for roughly a week, together with swelling and bruising near the temples and cheeks. Fine gathering of the skin at the entry points usually smooths within days. One side may respond more than the other. Rarely a thread can be felt, migrates, breaks, or causes local infection and is then removed. Because the material dissolves, the lift is temporary and repeat treatment is required.
